Our Sincerest Apologies to the runners of the 2022 North Country Trail Run.
Below is the letter that was sent to those that ran in last year’s North Country Trail Run. We ask that you fill out the form completely so we can begin the process of making things right from the issue with some of the swag last year and our lack in communication.
(Please respond by June 1st 2023)
Previous 2022 Participant of the North Country Trail Run,
We are sorry. Our 2022 race was a mess when it came to the swag items. A fact we recognize, and we want to express that we are sorry. Days after the race, all of the blankets arrived. That same week we found out from the factory in China that they would be closed for months due to Covid lockdowns in China. We pleaded with them to ship these (after the many months they were closed) with little information being given to these companies by the Chinese Government to share with us. We gave up and left those items in China. We now have an agent to help us move forward that will work with us in China to move swag through, we hope this will solve issues going forward. Financially it would have been impossible for us to ship out the blankets and then ship out the other items. So, our board of advisors have implemented the following in replace of the swag last year:
Option A:
- We issued a discount code last year for $43 that many participants used this year. If you have not used your code, you have the right to use it next year. (2024)
- Next, we are going a step further and providing all 2022 runners that participated in the race, a one-time use, free race registration. To use anytime in the next 6 years of the race. This registration can be transferred to another individual or can be sold (as long as it does not exceed the cost of the race that year.) Selling of your race registration can be handled directly between you and the other individual.
- In addition, all 2022 participants will be able to run the North Country Trail Run at 50% off the race registration fee for the next 6 years of the North Country Trail Run after they have utilized their above free race registration. This is also transferable to any individual to utilize on your behalf for up to the next 6
Option B:
- Should you be a runner that is “done” with the North Country Trail Run, and we understand if you are, we will refund you, at $10/year over the next 4 years (a total of $40) to each individual that let us know they would like that option instead of opting for bullet point 2 and 3 above. We will still honor bullet point one above. It will take us up to 4 years to do this refund, based on the volume of runners who choose this option because it is a lot of money each year, but we will accept your decision.
What are our hopes? We hope you’ll accept our apology. We hope you’ll choose one of the options above. Once we receive your request, we will reach out to you in the next 30 days with your discount codes or the month you’ll receive your first $10 refund check. We have to spread the refund checks over the year in order to try to sustain the race. We want to try to make this right with the abilities that we have. We also hope that you’ll return to the race sometime in the future, this is why we are providing the options above. So that you know that the race is not looking to make money off your registration, but instead to provide you with a better experience. We tried to do that over the years by not increasing the price of the race, but we realize there is so much more to it than just an affordable race, much more than that. Also, for those that might be concerned that they are receiving a discount code and that the race may raise its entry fee over the next 6 years, we will not increase the price of the race during that time.
We hope you’ll join us in the future, we hope you’ll accept our apology.
