The 2026 North Country Trail Run has been cancelled, and all current registrations will automatically be deferred to the 2027 North Country Trail Run.
This was an extremely difficult decision and was made due to health circumstances affecting the race director and the ability to safely and successfully prepare for and execute the event at the level our runners have come to expect.
All registered runners will have their 2026 entry automatically transferred to 2027 at no additional registration cost. You do not need to do anything to complete your deferral. Runners will have until July 1, 2027, to make any changes to their race selection for the 2027 event.
Refunds will not be available. A significant portion of registration revenue has already been committed or spent on expenses associated with the 2026 event. Some of those expenses, including certain supplies and materials, can be carried forward and used for the 2027 race, while other expenses already incurred for 2026 cannot be recovered.
If you are unable to participate in 2027, you will also have the option to transfer or sell your registration to another runner. Our team will work to clear runners from the wait list whenever possible by connecting available registrations with runners who would like to participate. While we will make every effort to help runners who cannot return in 2027, we cannot guarantee that every registration will be able to be transferred or matched with someone on the wait list.
Rather than attempting to move forward with an event that would not meet the standards of the North Country Trail Run, we believe the responsible decision is to preserve everything we can from this year and use it toward providing runners with the complete North Country experience in 2027.
We understand the disappointment and inconvenience this cancellation creates, particularly for runners who have spent months training and making plans for race weekend. We sincerely apologize and appreciate your patience, grace, and understanding during this difficult transition.
The North Country Trail Run will return in 2027, and if you're currently registered for 2026, your registration will automatically be waiting for you. No action is required at this time.
