40 states were represented last year and we reached capacity a week after the race registration opened. Over 400 individuals remained on a waiting list to run their first ultra, first trail marathon or half marathon. Veterans returned and the North Country Trail Run has become one of the top trail races in the United States.
The 2020 race is held at the “Big M” in the Manistee National Forest (3500 Udell Hills Rd, Manistee Michigan). The ultra consists of (2) 25 mile loops while the marathon is one loop and same with the half marathon and 50K. The half has it’s own course separate of the marathon and ultras. The 50K runners will run a part of the course that none of the other races will run on. All five events begin at the same location and all five events will have you talking about this race for years to come.
Kid’s Race will be back for the 8th year and is free for all kids. They will receive a free t-shirt and free kid’s race medal. Kid’s can race all day when they are ready by going to the start line and running the 1 mile loop for the kids.
If you are planing on running both Saturday and Sunday any combination of the race you will receive everything mentioned above PLUS a large beer mug (very large beer mug) to show your amazing accomplishment!
Plus all three races are:
* Chip time start and finish
* Start at separate times
The course is well marked with small flags aligning every trail you run on. The trail is a single-track trail with enough hills to make for a challenging race. There is no high altitude to contend with, no rocks to jump over, and no stream crossings to wade through, just a beautiful forest with a roots to remind you you’re not on pavement. Crews can attend to their runners at several points. We also allow pacers!
• Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female overall and top male and female masters in each event. All overall and masters receive free entry into the next year’s race.
• Awards will be given to the age group winners 5 deep for both men and women in our 13 age groups
